I’ve been living in Prague for 10 years now. That’s quite a stretch, considering I moved out from my parents’ home at 19 to attend university, and I never really moved back. Even though I love living in Prague, I often find myself missing my parents and grandparents more than I’d like to admit. They live in Slovakia, about five hours away by car, and every visit feels like a little escape from the city buzz.

Their home is close to the woods, surrounded by fields and nature. As a child, I spent countless hours outdoors—running, exploring, and breathing in the forest air. Back then, I had what you’d call an active lifestyle. Now, after a decade of city living, I’m a little more… let’s say sedentary.
We visited just before Easter, and it was such a refreshing change. We took long walks, revisited all my favorite childhood spots, and soaked up the calm that only nature can offer. No bear sightings this time (thankfully), but we did spot deer, rabbits, and even some wild boars—which are pretty common in the area.

And of course, no trip home is complete without food. I cook almost every day, but nothing compares to my grandma’s traditional meals. She makes the best bryndzové halušky, and my mom’s schnitzel is still unbeatable. We even shaved half an hour off our usual travel time—my husband really outdid himself behind the wheel!

It was a weekend filled with good food, fresh air, and the people I love most. Now it’s time to return to programming, finish my Android project, and write more code-focused articles. But I’m bringing a bit of that Easter peace with me.
